Nutrition Risk in the Critically Ill (NUTRIC) Score
Why Use
Other risk scores consider all ICU patients to be high risk. The NUTRIC Score identifies patients who are particularly likely to have a mortality benefit from aggressive nutrition therapy. Recommended by American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) guidelines for nutrition therapy .
Formula
Pearls / Pitfalls
Can be calculated without IL-6, which is not commonly ordered in many ICU settings, without sacrificing significant predictive power. Greater predictive power in ICU patients specifically, compared with other nutritional risk scores like NRS-2002 .
Advice
Consider aggressive nutrition therapy (enteral or parenteral) for patients at high risk.
