Calculates the pediatric version of the MELD score for liver cirrhosis severity and transplant planning.
When to Use
Similar to the MELD score, but for pediatrics: determines prognosis and prioritizes receipt of liver transplantation. Should be used in pediatric patients under age 12 for risk stratification and transplant prioritization.
Formula
PELD Score = 10*[0.436*(if patient <2 years) – 0.687*ln(albumin, g/dL) + 0.48*ln(bilirubin, mg/dL) + 1.857*ln(INR) + 0.667 (if patient has growth failure (<-2 Standard deviation))]
